Resources

The Australian Fisheries Academy has an impressive range of resources that allow the delivery of relevant, practically-focussed training.

These resources include two training vessels, a wheelhouse simulator, a mobile engine room and a fully functional seafood processing and retail facility as well as access to operating aquaculture farms, fishing vessels and seafood processing plants through its industry partnerships.

Part of the training students undertake is navigational simulation. This is conducted on AFA's Wheelhouse simulator. For more information see the recent article on the ABC Adelaide website: "Skipper sim: Navigate locations around the world from the comfort of an office."

Fully operational radar, GPS and plotting equipment is used to simulate real-time navigational situations. Students also have access to a number of different computer-modelled simulations to test their abilities.

A fully functioning vessel engine room is used to simulate operation and maintenance aboard a vessel. AFA's courses are designed to give students practical experience in the controlled environment of AFA's classrooms.
