Endeavour coming to Adelaide
02 Dec 2011
The Australian National Maritime Museum recently announced that the HMB Endeavour, a replica of the Bark-class ship sailed by James Cook, will be in Port Adelaide early next year.
In April 2011, the Endeavour began an historic circumnavigation of Australia and will be in Adelaide between February 16 and 23, 2012.
Sail on board
Sail into history with the Australian National Maritime Museum as HMB Endeavour continues on its first ever circumnavigation of Australia!
Built as a gift to the Australian people, Endeavour will follow in the wake of our earliest European explorers, visiting major and regional ports right across Australia.
The voyage commenced in Sydney and is tracing James Cook's original voyage 240 years ago when he became the first to chart the east coast of Australia in 1770. From Queensland Endeavour will sail across the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Top End to Darwin, before sailing into the Indian Ocean and along the Western Australian coast to Fremantle. The voyage will then see Endeavour cross the Great Australian Bight taking in South Australia and continuing around Tasmania, before crossing the Bass Strait to Victoria and returning home to Sydney by May 2012.
Don't miss the adventure - apply now to join as a member of our voyage crew! You will be trained by the Endeavour's professional crew in all aspects of 18th century sailing - climbing the mast, setting the sails, navigating, keeping watch and taking the helm - while forming life-long friendships with people from all over Australia and the world.
Endeavour Circumnavigation Volunteers
There are places available for enthusiastic people to act as tour guide ambassadors, showing visitors through the replica vessel at each visiting port.
Show our visitors the Mess Deck set for a meal, Joseph Banks' botanical specimens in the Great Cabin and Cook's private cabin just as it would have appeared all those years ago.
If sleeping in a hammock and keeping watch over HMB Endeavour is more your style, we are also looking for overnight ship-keepers. Previous maritime experience not necessary and training is provided. For more information, visit the Endeavour's website.

Academy at the Port Festivall
08 Oct 2011
As the major sponsor of the Complete Seafood Experience at the biennial Port Festival, the Academy have once again shown its commitment to not only the Port Adelaide community but to the wider South Australian community.
The Australian Maritime and Fisheries Academy (AMFA) together Wildcatch Fisheries SA, OceanWatch Australia, Primary Industries Skills Council SA, The Fish Factory and Pikes Wines were proud to be sponsors of the inaugural Complete Seafood Experience (CSE) on October 8th and 9th, 2011.
Nathan Bicknell, Maureen Jones and Franca Romeo together worked tirelessly to ensure this inaugural event was a success.
This free event showcased the journey of the state’s famous seafood produce - ocean to plate. The event was part of the 2011 Port Festival. It provided an insight into SA’s seafood and maritime community which has been a part of Port Adelaide’s culture for over 100 years.

The event also showcased the diversity of this iconic industry, its people, organisations and infrastructure which underpin our world renowned fisheries.
As major sponsors of the CSE, AMFA were included in the Port Festival’s $240,000 advertising budget. Having direct liaison with Mr Chris Rann (Publicist, Communications, Port Festival) also enabled AMFA to have direct input into the program, media releases and web content.
This year the Port Festival had 27,000 visitors, with 18,000 of those visiting the CSE site. These figures were almost triple the expected numbers based on previous years.
Check out the Academy's Facebook page for some great photos and comments about both the Port Festival and the Complete Seafood Experience.
