in 1997, the Australian Fisheries Academy was established as an industry
managed education centre for the fishing and seafood industries. It
is now recognised as a leader in the provision of fishing and seafood
industry based education and development programs, both within and
outside of Australia. |

Australian Fisheries Academy is the only industry owned and operated
seafood industry development and training organisation in the Southern
Hemisphere. Its role is to provide education, advisory, management
and support services in all fisheries related development and training
areas. |

a broad range of nationally accredited training programs and
short courses, the Australian Fisheries Academy is continuously

Leading the way in the development and provision
of industry relevant education, the Academy Board of management consists
of a cross section of industry experts. The industry-represented Council
provides the avenue for dealing with big picture issues while the
smaller, expertise-based Executive Board oversees the implementation
of the Council's macro vision and ensures that industry relevant outcomes
are achieved.

The
Australian Fisheries Academy offers training for all sectors of
the fishing and seafood industries as well as the small vessel maritime
industry from entry-level traineeships
through to senior management programs.
Programs
include regulatory maritime
certificates; fishing operations, aquaculture and post harvest
traineeship programs; fisheries compliance; seafood processing and
retailing; leadership and management; aquaculture (sea farming and
land based); sea safety; food safety; quality management and environmental
programs.

based advisory panels allow the Academy to ensure that programs are
relevant to industry needs while ensuring successful industry-student
partnerships are built that enhance employment outcomes. |

understanding the value and benefits of productive partnerships,
the Australian Fisheries Academy has established links with
other fishing and maritime providers in Australia and the Asia-Pacific
region. These include the Australian Maritime College; the Secretariat
of the Pacific Community; and Fisheries & Maritime Colleges
in Papua New Guinea and Samoa. |
